Tower of Terror 2013 Final Race Instructions
All information for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler can be found here: runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler
Print waivers and find your bib number here! I am bib 5042 and my sister is 5043....kind of crazy how that worked out!
Corral assignments can be found here. There are a total of 10 corrals this year along with the elite corral. We will be in corral G, so look for the Sea Witch and Scar if you are in that corral and say hi!
For more information about the rest of the events that weekend, you can also check the Official Race Program. In the program you will find information on the weekend itinerary, speaker series, expo vendors, course maps, spectator information and more.
Now that I have all of this information, I am getting more and more excited about this trip and can't wait to experience this race!
Are you running the Tower of Terror 10 Miler? Or one of the other races that weekend?

Back to the Routine!
We are now in the second week of school and my main goal over the weekend was to come up with both a meal plan for the week and also a workout plan. Gotta make the most of the hours the kids are in school!
So my morning started early- I wanted to get up early and get in my T25 workout (Total Body Circuit) before the kids needed to get up and have breakfast. I finished up just as my oldest was coming downstairs, so perfect timing! He actually found me "recovering" on the floor.....that was a tough workout.
After dragging my second grader out of bed and getting breakfast served, I started my speed work treadmill run. Complete with my Magic Mile Monday:

Wednesday's Reads 8/21 The Glass Slipper Confessions
I haven't kept up with my blog as well as I had planned to over the summer. It's always a little different around here when it comes to summer schedules. We are still very much in summer vacation mode at our house- school doesn't start for another week and a half and I have to say- I'm not really ready for school to start back just yet. We've had such a busy summer that it has just flown by! I really need to sit down and figure out our school year schedule because it will definitely take some coordinating and scheduling to get everything in! But for now I am going to just choose to enjoy the last little bit of the lazy days of summer.
That being said, I didn't want to miss the chance to draw some attention to a fairly new blog that I am really enjoying! The Glass Slipper Confessions is a blog that came online about 2 weeks ago and she has been great about posting fun, informative posts. She also has a very active Facebook page that is also fun to follow. I have particularly enjoyed all of her runDisney races and can't wait to follow her as she completes the Dumbo Double Dare (10k on Saturday and half marathon on Sunday) next weekend! Please be sure to check her out!
T25 Alpha Cardio and Speed 1.0
If you like my page on Facebook, you may have seen this picture Monday night:
That would be my husband and I after finishing our first T25 workout- Alpha Cardio. This workout is 25 minutes long, and just packed with movement from start to finish- you seriously do not stop moving the entire time. I did my best to keep up, but did find myself having to do the modified movements quite a bit as well. The workout moved very quickly and was energetic and the time flew by, though there were moments that it seemed to last forever. It was a good workout and we both felt like we got a lot out of the 25 minutes.
Then, last night we had our first encounter with Speed 1.0. This one was a combination of speed, stability and flexibility. I thought this one was harder than the Alpha Cardio even though there were times when you were doing a stability or flexibility move that actually provided a moment's break from the constant movement. My husband disagreed with me- he thought it was an easier workout than the cardio.
Today's workout will be Total Body Circuit.......I'm definitely feeling a little sore from the past two day's workouts, so we'll see how it all goes!

Pink Awareness Cupcake Virtual Race
I am thrilled to be able to help my friend at Run Find you Happy Pace with her fundraising efforts for the Susan G. Komen race for the Cure! Here is more about her and the reasons she is participating in this race in October:
My family and I are proud to be participating in Komen for the Cure in October.
I have a strong and close family history of Breast Cancer. My aunt, mother and most recently one of my sisters has been affected. I decided it was time for me to make a personal effort to help aid in the fight against Breast Cancer. I have committed to raising as much money as I can for the cause with the help of my friend over at Running In Sanity and our Cupcake Virtual Runs for Charity. So today I am happy to announce that in addition to my Breast Cancer Non-slip Headband fundraiser (for info on that click here) Running In Sanity and I are holding a Virtual Pink Awareness Cupcake 5k, 10k or half marathon. Not only will you be supporting a great cause you will get a beautiful two-tone pink glittery (because a girls got to have sparkle) diecast custom medal.
I will be running for my mom, sister and aunt....who will you be running for? 5k 10k or half marathon $20 International Races $25
Only 100 Medals will be ordered, so don't miss out!
Because this is a diecast medal, it does take time to get it produced from our production company. Medals will not be mailed until approximately September 21. But, do not delay in registering- the only way to guarantee your spot is to register early!
To register you must have a PayPal account, and use the PayPal link to the top right of this page. Registration will be $20 for United States participants and $25 for international participants.

Magic Mile Monday 8/19 and T25
This morning was another MMM, the time has been the same the past two weeks, so nothing new to report there at the moment. I have the rock and roll half in a little less than two weeks, and I'm not expecting a new PR, but I am hoping for a great race and a good springboard for the fall/winter racing season!
Today I will also be starting the Focus T25 workout program. This is a 10 week program with two parts- Alpha and Beta. 5 weeks of each part. The workouts are 25 minutes long and should fit nicely in my busy schedule. Tonight will be the first workout- and it is a cardio one. Quick review later tonight or tomorrow!
One more thing! Remember that if you are registered for the SuperCupcake virtual race, you are eligible to win a great skirt from Lily Bomb Athletic Wear! If you aren't register, don't delay! This part of the contest only runs until August 23! All proceeds from this race benefit Team in Training! Registration to the right --------------->

Magic Mile Monday 8/5
Today's MMM was a good one- 24 seconds faster than two weeks ago! The rock and roll half in Virginia beach is sneaking up quickly- less than 4 weeks to go! I also got to run outside yesterday (a rare treat for me!) and that run went pretty well also. The foot that was giving me a little trouble a couple weeks ago is feeling better so I am getting very excited for the fall/winter racing season!

Purchase my Playlist! (A Team in Training Fundraiser)
I will be running the 2014 Tinker Bell half marathon with Team in Training for the second year. I'm very excited to be able to run this half marathon again while also raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My commitment to raise $2925 is over halfway complete (thanks to the supporters of my Virtual Runs Fundraisers!)
I am starting a new fundraiser called Purchase my Playlist. It's a pretty simple fundraiser. For every $10 donation you make, you can choose a song for me to make up my playlist for the Tinker Bell half marathon.
It is pretty simple, here's how you can help:
1. Go to my Team in Training Fundraising Page
2. Make a $10 (or more!) donation
3. Leave a comment telling me what song it is you have chosen for me to add to my playlist
4. Don't forget to print a reciept of your donation- it is tax deductible!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the virtual races and if you aren't into running but still want to help, here is a great chance! I hope to have an all new playlist ready in January!

Color Me Rad 5k
Today I found out that I am a new Color Me Rad Ambassador for the Virginia Beach race! I'm very excited about trying out this race- it will be my third "color type" race, but my first Color Me Rad. I've read a lot of fun, positive reviews and I am looking forward to adding my own in November!
I hope if you are local that you will consider joining me for this race!

Magic Mile Monday 7/22
8 seconds faster than last week, so I'm happy that the time is improving. I'm having pain that runs from the joint in my right big toe into my foot, so I just did the warm up, the mile and a little more speed work. I will most likely do another non-running workout later on. I'm torn between wanting to run more to meet my time goals and wanting to rest my foot so I don't end up with some kind of injury.
Have you had this kind of pain before? What did you do?

Getting Back on Track
Summer is always a little hard for me when it comes to paying attention to what I eat. Our schedule is more relaxed- we tend to eat out a little more because we don't usually have to worry about getting up early for anything. So I am joining a new DietBet to help keep me more accountable. I had good success with the past DietBets that I have done. I was able to pay for most of my entry into the Glass Slipper Challenge with my winnings!
If you don't know how DietBet works, it's pretty simple. You pay the fee to join the bet (I usually stick to $25 bets) and submit a photo weigh-in and then after 4 weeks you submit a final weigh-out photo and as long as you lost 4% of your starting weight, you split the pot with anyone else who lost 4%. There is a message board you can post on in your game and there is even a mobile app so that you can keep up with your game on the go.
If you are interested, consider joining the game I just joined: http://diet.bt/16IYF0Q

Tower of Terror 2013
I am so excited! I was the winner of the Tower of Terror (ToT) 10 Miler entry from Life in the Twin Lane! I was not able to participate in this race last year, it was too close to when my husband was to be coming home from his deployment. I did enjoy reading some of the blog recaps as well as following friends who posted their experience on Facebook.
Description from the runDisney website:
Beware of the Disney villains as you set out on your thrilling The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler nighttime run along streets haunted by Disney's most frightening villains and characters! But don't be afraid! There are plenty of "not so scary" thrills for daytime runners in the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run. And that's just the start of the weekend excitement. runDisney Kids races, a nighttime Disney Villain Hollywood Bash, plenty of on course Disney entertainment, and exclusive access to select rides in Disney's Hollywood Studios make it a towering weekend of fun!

Last year the Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon was my first nighttime race. It is definitely a different experience. I paid closer attention to what I ate during the day and I also found it hard to try to relax- I was at Disney and wanted to play and have fun! Saving energy was a little difficult :) In the end, the excitement of the race carried me through and then the excitement of finishing the race carried me through the after party, which was great!
ToT has an after party as well, but this one is at one of my favorite parks- Disney's Hollywood Studios. Some of my favorite rides will be open and I'm hoping to be able to ride a few while enjoying just finishing the 10 miler! I have been chatting with my sister (the one who hasn't run a 1/2 marathon with me) about coming with me on this quick trip. I told her not to worry, the race is sold out, she won't have to run :) But I thought it would be a nice trip for us to take together- and maybe, just maybe she'll catch the running bug ;) There are still spectator tickets available for the Villains Bash, so she will be able to experience the after party with me.
I can't wait to see how this race compares to the other runDisney events I have participated in!

Magic Mile Monday 7/15
Confession time! I have not done a MMM in 3 weeks. Complete fail on my part! Honestly, things have been crazy around here. Not so crazy that I couldn't have gotten it done, just crazy enough that I didn't get it done. That's not good and I know it. But, I can't change the past- only the future and I refuse to dwell on what could have been, and choose to focus on now!
So, after 3 weeks off (with the exception of a few runs over those weeks), my goal was to get my MMM in under 11:00. As you can see, I squeaked by! So here's to looking forward and improving!
Have a great Monday!

It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's.......
SUPER CUPCAKE!
Registration is now open for our latest cupcake virtual run! It's hard to believe that a year ago I partnered with Run Find your Happy Pace to bring the first cupcake virtual to reality and here we are a year later! The cupcake virtual races (and the pumpkin virtual) have raised over $11,000 for Team in Training! That is an amazing amount and I thank all of you that have participated or shared our events!
Now, how can you earn the latest adorable cupcake medal????
We will be following the same honor system that we've had in place for all of our virtual races. This means that you register for our race and then run your race when you have the time. We will have an 'official' race day of August 31, 2013. But, you are welcome to do the race any time before or after! You choose your distance, place, time of day, all of it!
The SuperCupcake medal will be a 2 1/2" diecut medal and the yellow will have glitter. This is the final design for the medal, it has been approved by our medal production company. There will be a limited quantity available for this medal, and registration will remain open until capacity is reached. There will be updates placed on my Running in Sanity Facebook page and also the Cupcake Virtual Runs for Charity Facebook page.
Because this is a diecut medal, it does take time to get it produced from our production company. Medals will not be mailed until approximately August 21. But, do not delay in registering- the only way to guarantee your spot is to register early!
To register you must have a PayPal account, and use the PayPal link to the top right of this page. Registration will be $20 for United States participants and $25 for international participants.
All funds raised from the SuperCupcake virtual race will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through Team in Training. Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon!

Disney Wine and Dine 2013....
....Here I come! This race has been sold out for about a month now. I'll admit, I was a little sad when this one sold out and I wasn't registered. My husband revealed to me on my birthday that he was planning on registering both of us for the race but it sold out quicker than expected and he didn't get to it in time. Well, Sunday afternoon another opportunity to do this race presented itself. So, we will be doing this race again this year and I'm very excited.
If you missed out on the registration for this race, here is a chance:
If you missed out on the registration for this race, here is a chance:

Magic Mile Monday 6/17
It's the first MMM of summer vacation! I had a little bit of a hard time getting out of bed this morning- we don't have anywhere to be until around lunchtime and I didn't have to get anyone up for school! Plus, it's a little cloudy/rainy outside, making it a little harder even. But, once all the monkeys were up and eating breakfast, I got started. Shaved just a few seconds off this week, but it's an improvement and that's what counts!

Family Fun Friday!
Well, today is the last day of school for my big boys, yesterday was the last day of preschool summer camp for my younger two, so it is officially summer time at our house! We've got a few fun things planned for this summer, but I am just ready for a break from the every morning alarm clock!
In April this year, my family and I participated in our first Color Mania run in Raleigh. We were joined by my parents, both my sisters, my brother in law and my niece. I've been told by many that most color type runs are crowded and should be approached as a fun run (and mostly walk). This was definitely the case- we had a lot of fun, but it is a not a race that should be taken too seriously.

You start off nice and clean:
And end up looking something like this:
At the end of the run, there is a color celebration toss, where participants are given a packet of color to throw- just in case you didn't get enough color on your run!
A fun cloud of color:
The next color run my family will participate in is the Sparkle Me Wild 5k on September 2! If you are local to the area or will be in town for the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon, we'd love for you to join us! I've created a team for this event, so if you'd like to join our team, please do, at the end of your registration it will give you the option to join an existing team, and you simply select 'Color in Sanity'. I am hoping to have a team tshirt option up for team members to order in the next couple weeks!
The charity that Sparkle Me Wild supports:
From the Sparkle Me Wild website: "While we throughly love to spread the sparkle in the towns in which we hold our events we also sink a portion of every race into a children's national non-profit very near and dear to our heart, GO FAR or Go Out For A Run. This program reaches out to children across the nation to educate them on nutrition, good character, being active and living a healthy life! GO FAR is creating happy, healthy little runners and walkers all across the country and we love being able to spread the good word!"
Please consider joining us for a fun morning! Register here: Sparkle Me Wild!

Wednesday's Reads
I really enjoy reading other people's blogs. Some I read are running or other fitness related, some are family and friend blogs, and some are cooking (especially cupcakes or cakes!). I want to start sharing blogs here because there are a lot of really great blogs out there. I'm starting with one of my favorites over the past year: We Run Disney . This is a mother/daughter blog, and I've really enjoyed following all of their adventures in running and especially their running adventures at Disney. They are great about regular blog posts as well as Facebook and Twitter posts as well. I'm continuing to follow them as they train for several races over the next year including the Dopey at WDW in January.
Do you write a blog? I'd love to start following you, leave a comment :)

Princess Half Marathon 2013
Today is the day that registration opens for Princess Half Marathon 2014! If you are thinking of registering for the Glass Slipper Challenge- don't take too long in making your decision, this event is expected to sell out (and possibly quickly, judging by the time it took for the Dumbo Double Dare and the Dopey Challenge to sell out). If you are going to be registering today, here is the link: RunDisney Princess 2014. Registration opens at noon EST today.
So because registration opens today, I decided to finally do my recap of the Princess 2013 half marathon. Better late than never :) 2013 was my second year running the PHM. I traveled back to Caribbean Beach with my three fellow princesses, but we did things a little differently this time around. First change was that we flew in on Friday (much better than the 12+ hour drive from 2012!). We all flew into the Orlando airport around the same time and went to catch the shuttle from the airport to the resort. We also bought park tickets for this trip, so after checking in, we decided to go to Animal Kingdom and then Disney Hollywood Studios. Friday was a really long day, but a fun one. We got back to the hotel and headed to bed.
Saturday morning we headed to the expo after breakfast at the resort. This year the expo was moved from EPSN Wide World of Sports to Coronado Springs resort. Having the expo at the resort was definitely different and much more crowded than at WWS, but we managed to make it through and get the important stuff- our bibs, shirts and other princess swag. Our next stop was the RunDisney official merchandise booth. This was easily the longest line we waited it, but it really moved fast. Disney is pretty experienced at moving large numbers of people. There we picked up our "I Did It" shirts and a couple extras. After that we moved on to the rest of the expo- checking out the vendors. A fun additional to the weekend- the names of all of the runners was on a large wall, so we did take the time to each find our names:
Once we were all reunited at the finish line, we rested for a few moments and then got in line to catch the bus back to the resort. Kelly and I headed for a quick jump into the pool- it was very refreshing after the hot, humid race! After we had all showered and relaxed for a bit, we walked around the resort for a little while before headed over to the Contemporary resort for our reservation at Chef Mickey's for our celebration dinner.
PHM 2013 was a great trip filled with fun memories! If you are considering signing up for this year, you'll have a wonderful time!
Running Happy at the expo:
2013 Princesses:
After we finished at the expo, we went back to the resort to drop our stuff off and then headed over to Downtown Disney to do a little more shopping and to have dinner. Last year we ate at Rainforest Cafe and we had made our dinner reservations there again this year. Last year we were able to get our chicken fajitas (our pre-race favorite), but this year we discovered that they had changed their menu and they were no longer available. We made the best of it though and had a very good meal and then headed back to the room to get everything organized for our insanely early Sunday morning. One thing I always do is to lay out all of my race stuff the night before so that I am not scrambling around and looking for something on race morning (especially since at Disney you have to get up around 2:30 am to get to the bus on time!).
I don't usually have trouble falling asleep before a race at Disney- I think because I'm so tired, and this was no exception. We all got up and got ready to go out to meet the bus. We like to be on the first bus so that we don't have to be worried about not getting to the start corrals on time. We did get on to one of the first busses and soon were dropped off at the EPCOT parking lot.
The Cupcake Princesses by one of the window backdrop:
We got over to the pre-race area in plenty of time (even found an entire row of empty porta potties!). After waiting a little bit, we started the walk over to the start corral area. This is a bit of a walk, so we wanted to get over there early. When we got to the corral area, we got into another porta potty line, and when the corrals looked like they were starting to fill up, we went to wait in our corral. And then we waited.....
The Fairy Godmother was there to send us off:
Start line:
The sea of princesses, no picture can ever do this justice:
Waiting in our corral:
Finally it was our turn! My plan was to follow the 2:1 run:walk ratio that I had used at Tinker Bell. I started off well, but once I started running I noticed how warm and humid it was. I tried to keep my pace steady and to stick with my plan. It was working great, but I did end up walking a little longer than planned after the halfway point. When I got to mile 11ish, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder and it was one of my fellow princesses :) We were able to head into EPCOT together and then make our way to the finish! Best part of the race :)
Princess 2013 and Coast to Coast 2013 medals:
Once we were all reunited at the finish line, we rested for a few moments and then got in line to catch the bus back to the resort. Family Fun!
Last weekend all of my boys (and friends of theirs) participated in America's Kids Run here on our base. I am very proud of all of them, every one of them finished their race.

That evening we had a fun evening with neighbors and friends. We roasted marshmallows for s'mores and enjoyed an outdoor movie. We are looking forward to more fun summer evenings when school finally gets out next week!

Magic Mile Monday 6/3
Today I did my first magic mile Monday (MMM). My goal is to improve my mile time a little bit at a time and I wanted to start keeping a record of Monday mile times. Today's time was 10:49, so I feel like I'm off to a good start!

My Favorite Things...
I thought if start with an easy favorite thing. I've worn New Balance Minimus shoes since I started running. The first pair I had were the Minimus Zero Trail shoes and then I got these, the Minimus Zero which are designed for road running. I've been very happy running in these shoes, they are light and I love he minimalist feel of the shoe. I don't like a lot of cushion, so these work great for me.
Finding the right shoe can make all the difference for running. If you are thinking of taking up running and looking for shoes, I recommend going to your local running store (not a big chain store, but a smaller local one) and having someone help you figure out what shoe you need. It can save you money in the long run if you get the right shoe from the beginning.
Also pictured are my sweat pink laces and my 13.1 Shubeez shoe tag....more on those another time.

After a Blogging Break.....
Time to come back to a regular blogging schedule. I have been brainstorming over the past couple of weeks and deciding where I'd like my blog to go from here. I really enjoy blogging about running, exercise, weight loss and in general becoming a healthier person and a better example for my kids. I just feel like I need a little more structure to my blog to keep me more accountable and keep the posts coming on a more regular basis. So I've come up with some topics to help me stay more active with my blog (especially with summer coming....it's always hard to stay on track when everyone is out of school and we have less structure in our daily lives). I won't only post about these topics, but I'm hoping that by having some "assigned topics" I won't have as much blogger writers block :)
Monday: Magic Mile Monday~ I am really working on my pace this summer, so each Monday I am going to run a mile for time, and the goal is to see improvement over time.
Tuesday: Random Race Topics~ I like to research races before I run them, I also like to check out different races and dream about races I'd like to do one day.
Wednesday: Fellow Blogger Shout out~ I follow several (ok, a lot!) of great blogs. I'll share from other blogs and invite readers to link their blogs in the comment section.
Thursday: My favorite things~ just what it sounds like.
Friday: Family Fun~ weekends are usually our family time. We've gotten a lot better about being more active as a family, I'll do my best to highlight some of our adventures.
Saturday: Weekly Workout Wrap Up
Sunday: Menu Planning/Posting

I don't plan on posting everyday, but I know that having more topics on hand you'll see more posts from me more often. In the meantime.....
